On January 23, 2025, a leopard was successfully rescued from a residential area in Devguradia, Indore, following a tense two-hour operation by the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department. The incident unfolded when the leopard strayed from the nearby Devguradia forest and entered Mansarovar Colony, causing panic among residents.
The rescue operation commenced around 3 PM when the leopard was first spotted on the rooftop of a house in the colony. A team of 18 officials, including Senior Divisional Officer Yohan Katara and Ranger Yogesh Yadav, was dispatched to the scene. The team cordoned off the area, evacuated residents, and set up nets to safely capture the animal. After a brief search, the leopard was located hiding in an under-construction house. To ensure the safety of both the animal and the public, the team tranquilized the leopard before transporting it to a secure location for medical evaluation.
Upon examination, the approximately two-year-old male leopard was found to be in good health. Forest officials speculated that the animal had wandered into the urban area in search of food or water. Given the increasing leopard population in the forests surrounding Indore, such incidents have become more frequent, highlighting the need for effective wildlife management strategies.
